mikhail gorbachev and the end of communism

glasnost was a policy introduced by gorbachev. it was a way of discussing about how to improve the society with the soviet people. the glasnost had a good outcome until people complained about the change. the glasnost was a generous policy.

peristrokia was another idea by gorbachev because it was an idea of rebuilding the soviet economy. gorbachev didnt want to take away communism.

mikhail gorbachev opened up the soviet union and paved the way for the end of communism by supporting the citizens to make their own amount of money with his big idea also known as peristrokia.

one of the main reasons why communism collapsed were the majority of citizens disagreeing on the economic system.
the people among the ussr and eastern europe were running out of money and patience.
people tore down the berlin wall because they were simply angry when they thought they couldnt get to the other side of germany.
germany was divided into two sides. both sides had different economic systems.
once they tore down the berlin wall. everyones situation got a whole lot better.
the collapse of the berlin wall and communism changed the world completely because europe wouldnt have to worry about a nuclear annihilation from the west.

creation of isreal.

zionism is a jewish movement that arose in the late nineteenth century in response to growing anti-semitism and sought to reestablish a jewish homeland in palestine.

the conflict that was made when isreal was created was that the arabs did not like them since they were a different religion. the arabs also did not want the jews near them either. because of this the arabs decided to attack isreal. they kept on attacking. which lead the arabs to separate isreal from palestine.
after the war the isrealis defeated the arabs and won back the country of palestine.

nelson mandela and apartheid.

apartheid is a racist segregation policy used by the government of africa limiting the abilities of the non-white people of africa. by this i mean anyone who was living in africa who werent white didnt have the same full rights as the white people did.

nelson mandela was considered a hero to the african people because he was one of the small few who wasnt afraid to speak freely. the african people needed somebody like mandela to lead the way to earn what they deserved. before his journey, he was thrown into jail because the african government wanted to silence him once and for all after a life in prison. and of course. that didnt work.

he is admired today by many people. most likely for the fact that they found one of the few heroes who fought for what they truely believed in. they probably liked that mandela followed his heart and helped give a positive influence to the heroes of tomarrow

african independence.

the reason why africa changed so much in the short period of twenty years which was 1955 1975 was because during those twenty years africa was in the struggle for independence. africa's countries were taken over by the british making them british colonies. some of the successful leaders were blaise diagne, and moise tshombe.

NATO and The Warshaw Pact

the nato is an organization with countries from europe and north america. the nato was more like an alliance between the countries. like any other alliance, if one country gets attacked the countries allies would help out by defending the country who got attacked. nato stands for national atlantic treaty organization.

the warshaw pact was another alliance but mostly of the soviet union's satelite countries. this pact was made six years right after the nato was made. this pact eventually took over the soviet unions neighbors and made them join the warshaw pact.

i felt that this film had alot of real graphic footage of dead people and dying people. and yeah. i did find the footage more powerful than you did. it was pretty powerful because it actually showed real footage while the holocaust was going on. and it showed that it was very brutal back then. i think the other movie shindlers list illustrated the holocaust better because it had a storyline to understand it better.

This movie illustrated the holocaust by showing the most powerful struggle the jewish people had during this event. It showed how jewish people were killed, how jewish people were tortured, ect. The scene that i found were most powerful to me was when the children were being taken away from their mothers because i think that childen should never deserve to be killed. the image that would stay with me was the image of the jewish people trying to hide from the liquidation of the krakow ghetto.

US Atomic bombing of Japan in 1945

I dont agree that the US atomic bombing of japan was the number one news story of the century because in this century there has been a lot of bombings and terrorist attacks that occured around the world. on the list of the top 100 news of the century i would add what happend on september 11 and the war that is going on now with the US and Iraq.

Film Lesson:"Gandhi"

Gandhi helped his nation by encouraging the people of India to fight back for what they believe was fair between them and the British. Gandhi didnt believe in violence so he and the people of India used civil disobedience. Gandhi held speeches, boycotts and marches.
The british always took advantage of the people of India because of their natural resources. This seems almost like the European Imperialism in Africa

This film dipicted the Russian Revolution by showing how showing the causes of this revolution. They showed alot of poor people to people who had no choice but to go to war. This film had taught me alot about this revolution. The people of Russia wanted a change because their ruler Czar Nicholas III made the people of russia fight in World War I. They also wanted a change because the majority of russia was poor and they wanted to live peacfully. This film depicted communism by showing how the Doctor was forced to share his apartment with alot of people in poverty. And of course the Doctor was not happy :(

The Opium Wars

The Opium wars were against the British and the Chinese. These wars started because the chinese were too stubborn to accept any of the resources the British had to offer. The British introduced the Chinese with Opium. A plant that was used to make heroine. The Chinese became addicted and had no choice but to accept the treaty with the British. The British won these wars (obviously) because the british were more powerful in technology than the chinese.

"The White Man's Burden"

This poem is trying to tell about the Philipine people's feelings toward the US and their act in imperialism. Like the Africans and the british, the Philipines were taken advantage of. This poem describes how shallow imperialism can be. Today US imperialism still goes on. Instead of the Philipines, the US are trying to take over Afganistan, Iraq and Iran. The US is doing this because of oil.

In the movie the europeans had faced many obstacles in finding the main source in the nile river, which were moskitos that carried malaria, african tribes that tortured and killed people, and lions.
It is strange to most why the source of the Nile River is named after a british queen. The reason why I think this river was named Lake victoria was because one of the two men from europe just came up with the name.
One technological advantage the europeans had over the africans was their weaponry. The africans had spears and the europeans had guns. Obviously guns are more sufficient than guns.

Meji Restoration of Japan

Matthew Perry arrived to the coasts of Japan to negociate upon having the Japanese sign a trade treaty with the United States but the Japanese didnt want to, because they were so used to being isolated from the rest of the world. Then Commodore Matthew Perry sort of "bullied" the Japanese by showing off his boat that moved without sails. The Japanese were impressed because of course, the ships that the americans had were more modern than the Japanese. Japan had no choice but to grant what the United States had wished.
The Emporer of Japan who was very young, has lead Japan into modernization. He sent two people to the US and Europe to study their ways. After a long period of time Japan has started to improve. Japan became more modern, with a new government, and idustrialization just like Europe and United States.
Japan is an Archipalego because it is one country that has many groups of seprate islands.

Nationalism

Nationalism is a form of expressing one's self toward their country. My definition of nationalism is a positive representation upon a country. To display nationalism, some people wave their flags, paint their country's flags on their faces, wear their country's flags, go to parades that are celebrating for their country, and even decorate their houses with their country's flags.To display my nationalism for the Dominican Republic, I go to the Dominican Parade every August.

Geography of Latin American Revolutions

The connection between the Latin American Revolutions was that they all had the same purpose- to be freed from the Spanish Empire. Alot of contries won their independance in different years because the independance wasnt granted for every country in Latin America. These revolutions were obviously influenced by the American Revolution and French Revolution. Which were both influenced by the Enlightment Thinkers

Simon Bolivar

Simon Bolivar was a famous man because he granted the freedom and independance he promised to Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Equador, and Bolivia. Simon Bolivar wanted to free most of the latin american countries from Spain. The country Bolivia was named after him because he discovered the country and freed bolivia from the spanish empire

Latin American Revolutions

This Revolution was influenced by the enlightment thinkers just like the people who revolted in the French Revolution and American Revolution. One reason why the Latin Americans revolted was because like America and France they also wanted their fair government, liberty and equalities. The other reason was that every country in Latin America had no independance whatsoever.
